Building a fire can be a laborious endeavor, even for the most experienced of us. That’s where kiln dried firewood comes in. This high quality wood lights easy, burns clean, and doesn’t produce excessive amounts of smoke!

There are two main methods for drying firewood. Kiln drying and seasoning. The Kiln drying process is fast and efficient; it involves heating firewood in an industrial oven to remove moisture, insects, and fungus.

Highly Effective Wood

Seasoned firewood takes the slow route. It requires at least six months and does not provide consistent results. All manner of insects enjoy feasting on dead wood, and they’d be happy to come into your house where it’s nice and toasty! With kiln dried wood there are no bugs left after the heating process.

Seasoned wood usually contains approximately 25% moisture content. Our high quality kiln reduces moisture in the wood to between 10-15%. Kiln dried firewood makes it easier to start a fire and it burns hotter!

Low Moisture Levels

When wood has a high moisture level it burns unevenly and is more difficult to ignite; this also reduces overall heat output. Our high quality firewood burns 35% hotter than seasoned wood and is easy to light. This makes your job easier and keeps you warmer!

Moisture in wood produces extra smoke. This can make for an unpleasant campfire if the wind changes direction, and it’s not desirable in your fireplace. Too much smoke in your chimney also creates a fire hazard.

Smoke contains creosote which is a tar like substance that is produced from burning wood. Chimney fires can happen when excess creosote builds up and when chimneys are not regularly cleaned. Keeping a watchful eye on these factors is important to keeping your home safe.

If chimney fires spread they can burn the framing and exterior of your house. But, you won’t have to worry about excessive build up with our firewood products! We do, however, still recommend having your chimney inspected every year. If you have any questions about this, feel free to ask your local fire marshall.
